Ranking Every Destiny 2 Hunter Subclass in 2026

As a Hunter main in Destiny 2, I have always been drawn to the class because it offers a balance of style and lethality. In 2026, the subclass sandbox has continued to mature, and I often ask myself whether the best choice is raw speed, crowd control, invisibility, or pure firepower. After running each subclass through high-level PvE and PvP, my answer is simple: Hunters have no bad subclasses, but some are more adaptable than others. Before diving into the ranking, it is worth noting that the Light 3.0 rework and subsequent balance patches have made buildcrafting far more important than raw ability strength. The ranking below reflects which Hunter subclasses I would bring into a Grandmaster Nightfall, a raid encounter, or a tense Crucible match as of 2026.

4 Arcstrider (Arc)

The Arcstrider is a blast when I want to punch everything in sight. It is all about speed, raw aggression, and turning my body into a weapon. With the right Aspects, my dodge can trigger Lethal Current, infusing my next melee with chain lightning and making Jolted targets blind. When enemies are too far to punch, I can hurl a grenade or transform my Arc Staff into a lightning spear that competes with some of the strongest DPS Supers in the game. So why does it sit at the bottom of my list? Because outside of add clear, the Arcstrider offers very little utility for a fireteam. It has limited survivability without mods or Exotics, and a punch-first playstyle is risky in a Grandmaster Nightfall. Build variety is also narrow: either I am punching endlessly or throwing Skip Grenades. I respect the Arcstrider, but I only use it when the activity rewards pure speed and damage.

Aspects: Lethal Current is the backbone of most Arcstrider builds, while Flow State provides strong neutral game bonuses like faster dodge cooldowns and damage resistance. Tempest Strike, however, is not worth using because it lacks synergy and deals disappointing damage compared to a boosted Combination Blow.

3 Revenant (Stasis)

Revenant is the subclass I recommend when someone wants to control a battlefield rather than simply out-damage it. Nearly every ability in the Revenant kit can slow targets, and the Super is a fantastic shutdown tool in both PvE and PvP. With Elemental Shards, every shard counts as an Elemental Well, which means I can maintain near-constant ability uptime, a near-permanent damage buff, and serious damage resistance. In high-level content, freezing a group of Champions can be more valuable than killing one enemy instantly. That said, Revenant is incredibly build dependent. Without the right Fragments and Exotics, it can feel underwhelming compared to the Light subclasses.

Aspects: Grim Harvest creates Stasis Shards that fuel my melee, and it is a PvE staple. Shatterdive lets me detonate frozen targets and serves as a movement tool in PvP. Touch of Winter improves my grenades, while Winter's Shroud is easily the weakest Aspect because it only applies a small slow on dodge and lacks Fragment slots.

2 Nightstalker (Void)

When I need to keep my fireteam alive, I equip the Nightstalker. The entire kit revolves around invisibility, which drops enemy aggro in PvE and reduces radar pings in the Crucible. On its own, invisibility is strong, but the Nightstalker truly shines with its Exotics. Omnioculus lets me turn allies invisible and grants damage resistance while invisible, while Gyrfalcon's Hauberk gives a massive damage buff when I break stealth. This creates two distinct playstyles: a passive support role or an aggressive sneak-attack build. The only reason the Nightstalker is not number one is that its Supers feel less impactful than the Gunslinger's, and the playstyle can become repetitive if I only focus on going invisible.

Aspects: Trapper's Ambush is a must-have for PvE because it lets my Snare Bomb turn allies invisible. Vanishing Step turns my dodge into invisibility and grants two Fragment slots, making it useful everywhere. Stylish Executioner is niche but powerful with Gyrfalcon's Hauberk, especially when paired with Void debuffs.

1 Gunslinger (Solar)

The Gunslinger is, in my opinion, the best Hunter subclass in Destiny 2 as of 2026. I can throw infinite knives, keep a constant 25% weapon damage buff through Radiant, and unleash some of the most devastating Supers in the game. With Caliban's Hand, my knives Ignite groups of enemies. With Young Ahamkara's Spine, I can throw grenade after grenade. With Star-Eater Scales, a single Blade Barrage can deal over 800K damage in a second. The Gunslinger also has access to healing and excellent add clear, making it the most well-rounded Hunter option for both PvE and PvP. Why would I pick any other subclass when one can deal support, burst damage, and crowd control this effectively?

Aspects: Knock 'Em Down is one of the strongest Aspects in the game. It refunds my melee when I get a melee kill while Radiant and doubles the damage of Blade Barrage. On Your Mark grants team-wide handling and reload speed bonuses plus three Fragment slots, which is incredible for buildcrafting. Gunpowder Gamble can be powerful, but its long cooldown and single Fragment slot hold it back.
